Window stool for replacement window

Hi Experts, I have decided on changing the current wood windows with vinyl replacement windows.Well i have bought the replacement windows and did the install myself. Now the question is do i change the stool on the windows to butt against the replacement window. The reason for changing the stool is that the old wood window sash, when closed used to butt against the stool whereas there is about 3/4 gap between the replacement window and the old stool. I am planning to remove the old stool and put in a new one which would butt against the frame of the replacement window. Any suggestions on the type of wood to use or if it is good idea in the first place. I am considering the aesthetics of the window and would want to close the gap with a new stool. Thanks. BV
