Forum Title: Sliding door replacement
Can I replace a sliding door without changing the frame? I have some old ones from the 80's that have had their gas inside (between the panes) leak and now there are stains that I can't get rid of. It's not enough of an issue for me to want to spend the $1k+ to fix it, but if the doors can be swapped out easily, I might do that. I haven't seen anything like this online and so I'm guessing there is a reason why this can't be done. Any idea if this is possible?

Welcome to the forums! IMO sliding glass doors never lock well and the best defense is a stick laid in the tract to prevent opening. I've opened many a sliding glass door by taking my putty knife and lifting the door up and down ...... and those were brand new doors [to gain access to paint new construction] Even the pins that go thru both doors can be tapped repeatedly until they 'jump' out. You should be able to get a replacement lock and install it yourself - they aren't complicated.

Thank you very much. You made my life a lot easier with that - I used Angieslist and found a few companies I'll get quotes from.
